All quotes taken straight from Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, God rest her soul.

This book has more awesome lines in it than any other children's book I know. If you've only watched the movie, you are missing out big time.

I love how in the book, you can always tell how honest Howl is by his hair color. There is literally a whole emotional arc tied to the state of his hairdo -- that's just how this book rolls.

So:
Tinted, immaculate hair == he's lying / hiding.
Messy bird's nest == HE LOVES YOU. For serious!


No, the last picture doesn't happen in the book, either, but I imagine that by the time they get around to it, Sophie will have convinced Howl to show her his real hair color.

And hey, they have a baby in the sequel so this isn't speculation so much as ... picturing their off-camera exploits =3

Actually, in the sequel "House of Many Ways", Howl's hair is still blonde, and this is after he and Sophie have a baby.
